Ghilotti Construction proudly sponsored North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC) Heavy Equipment Day. The North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC) is a fantastic opportunity for last-semester high school seniors to gain valuable insights into the construction industry. Over the course of three months, participants will receive basic training in various trades and earn certifications to kickstart their careers. As part of this program, Ghilotti Construction Company (GCC) hosted Heavy Equipment Day at GCC Headquarters. The day featured seven separate stations covering topics such as small equipment operation and maintenance, GPS technology, underground utilities, and structures. Ghilotti Construction proudly supported local history and community heritage by donating 300 gallons of diesel fuel to Sturgeon's Mill in Sebastopol! Founded in 1914, the same year as Ghilotti Construction, Sturgeon's Mill was a captivating steam-powered sawmill that preserved a piece of our past. Retired Ghilotti Construction Superintendent Jess Todd volunteered at this living museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the past and the rich history of the sawmill. During 'Mill Run Days' at Sturgeon's Mill on May 4th & 5th, June 15th & 16th, August 3rd & 4th, and September 14th & 15th, from 10AM to 3PM, guests had the opportunity to experience the magic of steam-powered machinery and witness history in action! It was an unforgettable opportunity to step back in time and celebrate our shared heritage. A GPS training class was held at Ghilotti Construction's Santa Rosa headquarters, hosted by skyler shearer and Chris Miller. This meticulously crafted session, facilitated by Si-Tech/Ghilotti Construction, aimed to empower participants with a comprehensive grasp of Trimble GPS equipment, enhancing understanding and practical application in the field for project managers, engineers, operators, and grade checkers.   Investing in the skill development of our field personnel is fundamental to Ghilotti Construction's ethos, reflecting our commitment to fostering expertise and excellence across our operations. By providing our team with the knowledge and proficiency to utilize Trimble GPS equipment effectively, we elevate our collective capacity, ensuring superior results and upholding the highest standards of quality and innovation in the industry. Congratulations to our #5990 Windsor River Road Intersection crew! The Town of Windsor, CA has won a statewide honor for its roundabout. "The Outstanding Local Streets and Roads Project Awards, sponsored by the League of California Cities, CALIFORNIA COUNTIES ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS ASSOCIATION, and California State Association of Counties®, celebrate transportation projects that protect and improve local streets, roads, and bridges, according to a March 13 news release. Completed in March 2023, the Windsor River Road and Windsor Road Intersection Improvement and Multi-Use Pathway Connector Project was named the overall winner and recognized during the Cal Cities Public Works Officers Institute on March 13 in Monterey County. The town was “recognized for an innovative intersection improvement and multi-use pathway connector project that created a safer active transportation infrastructure for vehicles and pedestrians alike,” the release said." On March 15, the City of Santa Rosa, Sonoma County Transportation Authority, Caltrans, Ghilotti Construction and key dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the $43.7M Hearn Avenue Overcrossing Project, the third and final phase of the Highway 101 Hearn Avenue Multimodal Overcrossing project.   This vital, multi-phased mobility infrastructure project will enhance east-west connectivity for Santa Rosa residents of all ages and abilities. The current two-lane Hearn Avenue Overcrossing, built in 1957, will be replaced with a new four-lane overcrossing featuring a two-way Class IV bike lane on the south side with bollards, a wide, striped Class II bike lane on the north side, and six-foot-wide pedestrian sidewalks in each direction.   The overcrossing will boast higher clearance, meeting standards for taller trucks. Ramps to and from the overpass will be widened to improve traffic circulation and alleviate long-standing issues of traffic backups onto southbound Hwy 101.   The new sidewalks will extend to connect with existing sidewalks at the corners of Hearn and Santa Rosa Avenue, eliminating the need for pedestrians to walk on the roadway shoulder.   Work is set to commence on April 15, 2024, with completion expected in summer 2026.
