Squire Cigars originated in February 1974 as The Pipe Squire in Santa Rosa, CA. The first location was at the Belvedere on Mendocino for eight months, then they moved to Old Courthouse Square, downtown. After two years Barney and Linda Squires took the big jump and opened a shop in Coddingtown Center. They operated for eight years across from the old Emporium before moving into the newly enclosed center mall. They were in business at this location for 16 more years.

In 2000 they moved the store to their current location at 1305 Cleveland Avenue which afforded them room enough for a lounge and retail operation. They are in their 16th year at Vineyard Square, home of D'Argenzio Winery, The Barbery, a traditional barbershop, and Fog Belt Brewing Company. The center is now a mecca for rest and relaxation. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in February, 2014. Begun as a very small business in a 300 foot space, they have grown to be one of the most recognized shops in the industry.
